A Ninos del Sol Eco School Teacher is a professional that passionately cares about the environment, understands the impact they have on a student and the community, and has a profound desire to learn and make connections for the betterment of our society.
Responsible for instructing students in grades 1-6. The elementary teacher is expected to create lesson plans, administer praise and constructive criticism, instruct student subjects such as science, literature, and math, and create a holistic instructional program. The elementary teacher will work closely with the Outdoor Education Specialist to connect the ocean and the garden to lessons and projects.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Teaching and Planning
Actively relate curriculum to the passion of the individual and the pillars of the school.
Create and implement aligned curriculum through backwards planning;
Create assessments that will successfully measure academic progress;
Assume responsibility for academic progress within classroom;
Abide by school-wide protocols for documenting all syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, rubrics, etc.
Utilize the technology of the school to enhance the learning experience
Revise curriculum and teaching methods based on measurable data.
Set and maintain high expectations for 100% of the scholars, 100% of the time
Work team to create individual behavior plans for selected students
Use PBIS in classroom management.Abide by school-wide practices for behavior management and individual behavior plans;
Take ownership over the classroom management with the mentality of “How can I improve my implementation of our systems, while always assuming the best in my students?”
School Culture Responsibilities
Work with staff to analyze data, revise practices, norm on team-wide initiatives, and discuss individual scholars with a solutions-oriented mindset;
Create systems for exceptional effort and growth, both academically and behaviorally;
Regularly communicate students’ progress towards goals with families;
Attend and be an active participant in all professional development (school-wide or team-based) opportunities;
Take part in monthly one-on-one feedback meetings with to discuss observation feedback, role-play pedagogical strategies, analyze data and/or refine curriculum map.
Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree in Education or Certification; ( TEFL, TOFL, CELTA, etc. do NOT equate)
At least three years of teaching experience strongly preferred;
A desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families and community;
Bilingual (at least an advanced English/Spanish level)
Strong Literacy background AND/OR Strong STEM background
Familiar with IB, Common Core, or MEP standards
Passionate to connect lessons to environment
Experience with Project Based learning
CPR/First Aide training
Ability to swim 150 meters
Have an interest in gardening
