OUTDOOR EDUCATION SPECIALIST
Ninos del Sol Eco School in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica is hiring for the position of Outdoor Education Specialist (OES). The OES's mission is to connect the student's academic experience to the ocean and the garden in as many ways as possible. The OES, possessing advanced skills and knowledge, to plan, implement and evaluate a variety of outdoor programs. Programs may include, but are not limited to horticulture, permaculture, snorkeling, tidal explorations, nature art and expression, sailing, kayaking, SUP, fishing, animal husbandry, hiking, backpacking, camping, adventure racing, orienteering, survival training, etc. These programs enhance the appreciation of nature as well as support health and wellness initiatives for the school. The OES's key role is to draw a connection of the academic pieces to the "real world". The OES should expect to work closely with other teachers to ensure these curricular connections will be made with the best scope and sequence for the student.
Bachelor's degree (not a TEFL, CELTA, etc.)
Min. 3 years experience in PreK thru Grade 6 education
Experience in outdoor education
Experience in lesson planning
Ability to swim 150 meters
Able to walk 3 km
Able to lift 20 kg
First Aide & CPR Cert.
Experience/study of horticulture
Able to connect curriculum to the ocean, the garden and serving the community
Express strong leadership qualities
Experience working with children PreK thru 6th grade
Experience in STEM application and projects such as DIY or MakerSpace
Experience with teaching different ages and subjects in lesson planning
Proficient use of Spanish/English
Willingness to create after school programs such as Team Leadership Training Program, Camping Club, Gardener’s Guild, etc.
